Chemical Substance Management Policy

Management of Chemical Substances in Products

For chemical substance management, the Environmental Promotion Department takes the lead in creating and implementing a basic management manual (Product Chemical Substance Management Standard). To monitor implementation, an Environmental Quality Internal Audit Checklist is used. The Environmental Promotion Department and the EMS Internal Audit Team conduct audits at all plants. Audit results are reported to management, linking into the management review system.
In addition to substances regulated by the RoHS Directive, our group has established a list of prohibited substances that includes substances required by customer specifications, voluntarily prohibited substances, and substances regulated by other environmental laws. Furthermore, we have established a list of controlled substances that must be tracked for presence and content. We have also established a list of substances subject to reporting requirements, which includes substances of very high concern (SVHC) subject to authorization under the REACH Regulation.
These are also listed in our Green Procurement Guidelines, and we require our suppliers to submit a guarantee of non-use of prohibited substances. We have introduced X-ray fluorescence analyzers and phthalate screening systems to periodically check the content of environmentally hazardous substances in materials and parts delivered by our suppliers.

Consideration for the Water Environment

Changes in Water Consumption

Approximately 98% of the water we use is groundwater, which is mainly used in the manufacturing process. We recognize that the conservation of water resources is an important issue and are working to reduce our consumption.
For example, at some of our facilities, groundwater used for cooling water is stored in reservoirs and reused for sprinkling water during summer and snow melting during winter. Going forward, we will promote the introduction of reuse and recycling systems to further reduce water consumption.

Environmental Risk Management for Water Areas

Our company uses large volumes of groundwater. For wastewater, we regularly have third-party organizations analyze the water quality to confirm compliance with locally established discharge standards. We also implement regular monitoring based on our own internal standards.

Prevention of Air Pollution

Reduction of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are one cause of suspended particulate matter and photochemical oxidants. VOCs are a general term for organic compounds that are volatile and become gaseous in the atmosphere, encompassing a wide variety of substances.
Our group implements measures to reduce emissions and dispersion of VOCs used in our factories.

Reduction of Environmentally Harmful Substances

Achieved complete Lead-Free Resistors for Variable Resistors.
We are also promoting the development of completely Lead-Free glass coatings and resistors for Chip Resistors.

Adoption of Green Energy

The manufacturing process for Chip Resistors uses 100% renewable energy, achieving virtually zero CO2 emissions during production.

Linking with the Latest Trends in RoHS and REACH

In line with the latest trends in RoHS and REACH, we are promoting improvements and development to eliminate the use of materials such as phthalates and PFAS, which are suspected of having adverse effects on the human body, in our products and processes.
At the same time, we are striving to contribute to the achievement of a sustainable society by developing and providing environmentally friendly, high precision sensor products that maximize the efficiency of energy-efficient heat pump applications and fuel cells designed to eliminate fossil fuels.
